about

Heroic Dose is a Kansas City based electroacoustic duo formed by Seth Andrew Davis on electric guitar/electronics and Dylan Ward on saxophones. Heroic Dose incorporates elements of electronic processing and free improvisation in their music and explore ideas of psychological/physical transformation, the psychedelic experience, and interspecies communication. Heroic Dose released their first album, A Longing for Interspecies Companionship, on the Mother Brain Records label in May 2020. The work was recorded in collaboration with animator Colin Mosely’s interactive environmental exhibition of the same name and is a six part mediation which explores the interdependence of human life and the natural world.

Their eponymous ten track debut is inspired by the work of Terence McKenna, where they encode the transformational imagery and sonic possibilities drawn from psychedelic experience into musical input for acoustic instruments, which is then further transformed through electronic processes.

“Heroic Dose" captures Davis's and Ward’s electroacoustic version of the ensemble with Davis on laptop and electronics and Ward on various saxophones. Included in the album is Davis's “The Fortress Of Solitude” originally written for saxophonist and improvisor Chi Him Chik using alto and soprano saxophone and live, fixed, and implanted electronics that premiered on Chik's tours of Indonesia and Malaysia in 2019. “Heroic Dose” is the follow up album to the duo’s first record “A Longing For Interspecies Companionship” that was released back in May.
