“Technics” by Spectra

“Technics” is the first album by Spectra, the piano and electronics duo of Spencer Perkins and Seth Andrew Davis.

“Technics” explores the processing, dissection, and morphing of the piano through various electronics processing and improvisation.“Technics” stems from the work of the late philosopher Bernard Stiegler, whose concept of technics located technology at the heart of being human; to be human is to be technological. Technology is a 'pharmakon', functioning both as a potentially poisonous force but also as an antidote or remedy. The album represents this perceived intersection between the "natural" (i.e. the piano, an acoustic instrument) and the synthetic" (electronics) and how they are each in a symbiotic relationship, feeding and heightening each others innate sonic qualities.
